It was a great weekend for Bobcat volleyball. The Bobcats competed against Brownsville Rivera Saturday, September 3rd, at the Edinburg High School gym. Both teams put on a great performance that had the audience captivated throughout all 3 games with scores of 25-20, 25-17, and 26-24. Although the members missed starting middle, Natalie Martinez, they did a fantastic job of filling in the gap. Renee Ponces’ playing could be described as nothing short of effortless. Considering this is her first year playing varsity as a sophomore, she displayed beautiful sets and shows great promise for the years to come, ending the game with 11 assist, 2 digs, 2 kills, and 1 ace. It seems that Dezi Marmolejo was born with a volleyball in her hand. She is an all-around exceptional player that has a natural talent for the game. With 13 assist, 21 digs, 5 kills, 4 blocks, and 5 aces, she really is a sight to see and will not disappoint. The team has really come together this season, playing as one united front rather than several individuals. According to Coach Dee Dominguez, the scores were “closer than they needed to be”, however, she reassures that adjustments will be made during practice to fix their mistakes. She will lead the team into one more pre-district game this Tuesday, September 6th, against Harlingen High. If given a chance, make the effort to come out and support your Lady Bobcats and cheer them on to bring home another victory.
